Metropolis Festival: Six Must-See acts this Weekend

When We Dip
Dublin, Events, News
4 November 2015

With only a few days until Metropolis, WWD have compiled a list of acts you should check out this weekend… Enjoy!!!

Maribou state: Eagerly anticipating this act at Metropolis, I’ve been a huge fan of their release portraits, excellent song writing and musicianship combining to create a melancholic electronic sound, which elicits numerous genres. Similar vein to James Blake, and the XX, Maribou will bring more of an emotive set to the RDS, listening to tracks like the Clown and Wallflower live will be treat.

Flight facilities: FF are a wonderfully fun and energetic duo to listen to, their sounds encapsulate feel good moments, bringing synth and pulsing beats together with some excellent guest vocals. The duo take influence from acts, past and present, such as ELO, Jamiroquai, Daft Punk, Chic, Mylo and more, such influence is very noticeable within their excellent singles and remixes, check out ‘Down to Earth’ ‘With you’ ‘Crave You’. This set will be one of the liveliest of the weekend, guaranteed feel good mixing and positive vibes. A must see.

Jamie xx: Jamie xx can do no wrong of late, a fantastic Mercury nominated Album in the form of ‘In Colour’, and a number of huge productions in his collection over the past few years, my personal favourite still being his Jill Scott Heron project. Seeing him Live previously was a treat. Very much one of the best Djs on the scene at the moment, expect a packed room when he’s mixing his vinyl.

CLU: Inspired by 1980’s science fiction films, contemporary dance, 8 bit computer graphics and arcade sound tracks a la Streets of Rage. Clu works by fusing music and visual art together and concentrates on presenting these ideals to their audience.

Originally created by Sean Cooley and Kevin Freeney as a way to play music to their friends in nightclubs around Dublin. After smashing it at B&S this year, they are definitely a duo that should be checked out. Bringing some seriously dark and atmospheric sets, this will definitely be a vibe.  Check out ‘Zenith’ and ‘Mirrors’

Floating points: Floating points is one of my favourite producers/dJ’s and has been for years, his sound of jazz infused electronic music never disappoints, with so much depth and creativity gracing each of his tracks, when listening x creates a beautiful journey and seeing and hearing him live is always a fantastic occasion. Definitely one not to miss.

KINK: Kink will be one of the highlights of the weekend, already lauded as one of the brightest producers around at the moment, the Bulgarian is cutting his teeth in some Iconic venues, and festivals including Berghain and Dekmantel. Securing him for this festival was an excellent shout, interviewed recently by WWD in an excellent piece, you get a nice insight into the creative process behind his live shows, impromptu, off the cuff, understanding the energy of the crowd and what they want. Hugely excited for this.

Tickets are selling out fast for Metropolis so make sure you purchase before it’s too late.  Both day and weekend tickets are still available HERE. Metropolis is taking place this Saturday and Sunday in the Serpentine hall, RDS.
