Vivrant’s fourth release of the year follows up Jeremy Olander’s retro stomper ‘Steps’, and gives us a return from Khen with his groovy, melodic peak time monstrosity ‘A Hero’ EP.
Since his debut on Vivrant in 2017, the Tel Aviv native has gone on to be heralded as one of the brightest shining stars on the melodic house sky. With Beatport chart-topping releases on coveted imprint in likes of John Digweed’s Bedrock, Lee Burridge’s TRYBESof, Sebastien Leger’s Lost Miracle and UK power-house Anjunadeep, Khen’s development trajectory as a producer has been nothing short of spectacular.
‘A Hero’, the lead record on his sophomore project on Vivrant, his second outing on the label after fan-favorite ‘Cornfields’ EP from three years ago, ticks all the boxes for a future Khen classic. Intricate yet exuberant FX details, meticulously done drum work and a serene lead melody that culminates with a rambunctious drop when the suspense levels cannot possibly get any greater, are telltale signs of one of the most talented producers of his generation.
On the flip side, we welcome ‘Born Out’. Following up on where ‘A Hero’ left off, it continues on the EP’s paved path of high-spirited soundscapes that gets our neurotransmitters firing on all cylinders. Most noteworthy, the breakdown and main drop. While still maintaining a peak level of sophistication and avoiding any resemblance of a generic cookie-cutter record, ‘Born Out’ takes our hand and transports us to another dimension.
