The Malta-based avant-garde electronica label Armadillo Records presents its 26th release, a masterpiece by the label’s visionary owner Guy J.

Since 2017, the label has evolved and seen remarkable artists in the genre. However, ‘Drifting Memory Part 1’ stands as a game changer, pushing boundaries to the stratosphere. The outcome is a charming 25-minute audio journey that evokes abstract emotions and introduces fresh dimensions of elegant, timeless home-listening music.

Guy J’s authenticity shines as his greatest asset. His music serves as a soundtrack for deep exploration, merging interstellar and inner space journeys, improvisation, and precise structure. Similar to savoring a great book from its first page, the joy of this sonic journey begins with a simple press of the play button.

You can now listen to the full premiere of ‘Drifting Memory Part 1’ exclusively on When We Dip while reading the small interview we had with Guy. Enjoy!

WWD: How did you approach the production and technicalities for such an extended, 25-minute ambient track?

I think this has been the most natural way of working for me. It is one live recording without the possibility of editing. I was at the right moment in the zone and just started recording. Moments like this are special moments. You know, magic in the studio is happening.

WWD: Were specific tools or techniques essential in crafting the sonic landscape of “Drifting Memory Part 1”?

I have a few effect pedals in the studio and was experimenting by combining a chain of pedals into each other. Whenever I played a note on the connected synthesizers, this beautiful carpet of sounds would come out.

WWD: How does releasing on your own imprint, Armadillo, influence the creative freedom and direction for tracks like “Drifting Memory Part 1”?

I love having a place like Armadillo that can be home to that music. As seen in previous releases by others, I learned that numerous producers have music like that stored at home, waiting to be released. I love doing music for clubs, or what you might refer to as house music. However, there’s also a sense of relaxation in experimenting or simply letting creativity flow in the studio—it’s almost like a form of meditation.
