With more than two decades dedicated to electronic music, Leo Janeiro has always known how to engage with the transformations of time — the element that shapes the artist, renews references, and reveals new forms of expression. In ‘Tempo’, his first album released through his own label Cocada Music, Leo revisits this relationship in a symbolic way, translating his passion for house music and its many branches into sound, all of which have shaped his career so far.
Composed of eight tracks — Time Goes (feat. Jhayam), Carioca Flute (feat. Nathan Flutebox Lee), Copa Jazzin, Redentor (feat. Jon Dixon), Disco Raro (feat. Mona Lee), Som na Caixa (feat. Zopelar), Easygoing (feat. From House To Disco), and Avec Moi — the album travels through the roots of house with a focus on deep and jazzy aesthetics while exploring rhythmic contrasts and nuances. There are touches of dub, reggae, and slow dance in the title track Time Goes, and echoes of baile funk in Som na Caixa. Between moments of softer listening and more intense club cuts such as Redentor, the album reveals Leo Janeiro’s musical versatility and his creative breadth as he navigates moods and references that fit any moment — both on and off the dancefloor.
‘Time Goes’ opens the album with the smooth swing of dub reggae, slower beats, and the captivating vocals of Jhayam, one of the leading representatives of Jamaican music and soundsystem culture in Brazil. Diving into the subtleties of Jazz,
‘Copa Jazzin’ invites listeners into a warm summer night in Rio, where the sea breeze meets the groove of House in a playful dance of rising celebratory energy.
‘Redentor’ is born from Leo’s encounter with Detroit-born musician and producer Jon Dixon, presenting a vibrant arrangement with piano lines that echo the essence of jazz infused with the warm spirit of house — perfect for peak-time dancefloors.
In ‘Carioca Flute’, the presence of Nathan Flutebox Lee brings engaging flute lines that merge organic freshness with Brazilian identity and house nuances, expanding horizons and projecting new possibilities for the dancefloor. Meanwhile,
‘Som na Caixa’ places breakbeat at the center of the arrangement, invoking the raw and vibrant energy of Rio’s baile funk, translating the powerful synergy between the signatures of Leo Janeiro and Zopelar.
‘Disco Raro’ is an homage to disco music, delivering elegance and sophistication through melodic details that dance between electric piano lines, chords, and guitars. The highlight comes with the vocals of the talented Mona Lee — a singer and producer who has collaborated with names such as Kerri Chandler — adding a velvety layer reminiscent of classic Soulful House.
‘Easygoing’ emerges from the collaboration between Leo Janeiro and the São Paulo duo From House To Disco, offering one of the album’s more contemplative moments. Piano arrangements blend with hypnotic layers, resulting in progressive energy with a gently danceable touch — a beautiful track that unfolds and surprises as it evolves.
‘Avec Moi’ closes the album, delivering the effervescent energy of disco house in its most dance-ready form, driven by grooves built from bassline, synths, and string layers, reinforcing the golden era of disco in a modern form.
The result of this album is a body of work that merges experience and reinvention, celebrating time as movement, maturity, and continuous creation.
