Huxley, whose real name is Michael Dodman, is a prominent DJ and producer hailing from the UK, known for his versatile and dynamic contributions to the house music scene. Born and raised in Tring, Hertfordshire, he has carved out a distinctive niche over the past decade by effortlessly blending various styles, including main room house, techno, UK bass, and deeper, emotive sounds. His ability to stay ahead of musical trends while maintaining an authentic, signature style has made him a standout figure in the electronic music world.
Huxley first gained widespread recognition with his 2012 hit “Let It Go,” released on Hypercolour, which catapulted him into the spotlight. Since then, he’s built a robust discography, releasing on top-tier labels like Aus Music, Toolroom, Knee Deep In Sound, Moon Harbour, and Repopulate Mars, among others. His work spans club-ready bangers and DJ tools to more ambitious projects, like his debut album on Aus Music, showcasing his range and musical depth. Never one to stay in a single lane, Huxley frequently experiments with new sounds, collaborating with artists like Sam Russo, Ethyl, and even J.Phlip, with whom he launched his earlier label, No Idea’s Original, in 2015.
In 2022, Huxley unveiled his latest venture, Dumb Safari, a label that reflects his ongoing evolution and desire for creative freedom. Inspired by one of his early breakthrough tracks, Dumb Safari serves as an outlet for his own productions and those of other producers he champions, both established and emerging. The label kicked off with the release of “AFN,” a dark, funky, pounding cut that set the tone for its ethos—unrestrained creativity across house, techno, UK garage, and beyond. Huxley has described Dumb Safari as a home for music that doesn’t quite fit elsewhere, aiming to foster a unique sound and vibe while giving artists space to experiment. Since its launch, the label has dropped several notable tracks, including collaborations like “Since” with Wouter S and Chicago Hustle, and solo efforts like “The Rooftop,” earning support from DJs and fans alike. Dumb Safari represents Huxley’s commitment to pushing boundaries and nurturing a community of like-minded artists.
As a DJ, Huxley is as comfortable commanding massive festival stages as he is spinning in intimate, sweaty basements, delivering high-energy sets that fuse house, tech house, and techno with an infectious groove. His performances have taken him across the globe, from Africa to Australia, earning him a reputation as a selector who prioritizes vibe and quality over gimmicks. Off the decks, he’s known for his laid-back demeanor, a contrast to the bold, bombastic energy of his productions, and he maintains a playful online presence that reflects his approachable personality. With a career marked by constant reinvention—bolstered now by the fresh platform of Dumb Safari—Huxley remains a key player in the UK house scene, blending big hooks and slaying basslines with a genuine passion for music that resonates with both dancers and fellow DJs alike. Whether through his radio show on Rinse FM or his latest label releases, he continues to lead from the front.
To celebrate his new ‘MIND G%MES’ EP, out on Rekids, Huxley recorded a new mix for our Select Cuts mix series. Enjoy!
