Helsloot (born Thomas Helsloot) is a Dutch-based artist known for his melodic, futuristic, and heavily hip-hop-influenced take on techno and disco. One of Helsloot’s initial productions was a draft of ‘Because You Move Me’ which he sent to his friends Tinlicker. The track was subsequently released by Armada and has garnered over one billion streams. It achieved platinum status in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, as well as gold status in France and the Netherlands.

This success provided Helsloot with the opportunity to step into the spotlight as a DJ and refine his sets with his own productions. His work has been signed by labels such as Get Physical, When We Dip Records, Domino Records, This Never Happened, Ritter Butzke, and Anjunadeep. With notable tracks like ‘Killing Time’ and ‘Let’s Pretend’, which is also the namesake of his own club night in Amsterdam, Helsloot’s career has soared, leading to numerous gigs in Amsterdam, London, Berlin, Turin, Zürich, Prague, Istanbul, and São Paulo. In May 2024, Helsloot released his well-received debut album on Get Physical.

Then Get Physical asked him to curate a new edition of their iconic Body Language series. Originally launched in the early 2000s, Body Language began as an influential DJ mix series, spotlighting underground talent and trends within club culture. Over time, it has evolved into a forward-thinking artistalbum concept. Past editions have featured names such as Dixon, DJ Hell, WhoMadeWho, Francesco Tristano, Monkey Safari, Yulia Niko, and label founders Booka Shade, DJ T., and M.A.N.D.Y..

Curating Volume 27, Helsloot brought his vocal-led, melodic house sound to the project. One of the highlights is his take on M.A.N.D.Y. vs Booka Shade’s ‘Body Language’. First released in 2005, the track remains one of the most recognizable and influential house tracks ever created, a genuine evergreen anthem. The new carefully reframes the iconic bassline, twisting it into a new harmonic context and surrounding it with cinematic chord layers. Gradually, familiar synth motifs from the original emerge, building tension until the break strips everything back, leaving the legendary bassline to stand alone. The moment feels both surprising and celebratory: A respectful nod to the past wrapped in Helsloot’s unmistakably clean and melodic sound.
