Romanian deep house architect Mihai Popoviciu makes a memorable return to Music is 4 Lovers, this time with a remix of LA-based producer SAAND’s standout single ‘Los Angeles’. Originally penned by Music is 4 Lovers resident SAAND, the track now arrives as part of a stacked remix package alongside reworks from Audiojack and Francesca Lombardo, cementing the release as one of the more talked-about packages on the label this year.
Mihai Popoviciu has spent close to two decades sculpting his unmistakable sound. From his early years cutting his teeth on the Romanian scene to releases on the likes of Highgrade, Bedrock, Poker Flat, and his own imprint Cyclic, the Sibiu-born producer has carved out a reputation for deep, hypnotic grooves and the kind of pinpoint groove craftsmanship that translates seamlessly from the headphones to the dancefloor. His Indie Dance reshaping of ‘Los Angeles’ leans into that signature DNA, riding a steady 124 BPM pulse, weaving in textured synths, and giving the original a more nocturnal, peak time feel without losing any of its melodic warmth.
Behind the source material is SAAND, the alias of Los Angeles producer Michael Sandler, a key resident in the Music is 4 Lovers family who has built a catalogue full of soulful, world leaning grooves. ‘Los Angeles’ is one of his most personal records to date, and seeing it placed in the hands of Audiojack, Francesca Lombardo, and now Mihai Popoviciu speaks volumes about how far the track has resonated within the scene.
