NAFT and CLOSER share more than a release with ‘Medea’; they share a city. Ghent runs through both, and that common ground gives this record a rooted, lived-in feel that is impossible to fake.

‘Medea’ marks the very first official recorded release from NAFT, a debut single that distils everything that makes the band so distinctive. Far from a traditional DJ act, NAFT bring a genuinely live approach to electronic music, blending melodic techno with horns, drums and real-time musical interplay. Their setup of brass and percussion blurs the line between live and electronic until it almost disappears, and ‘Medea’ carries exactly that energy: driven, atmospheric and built from musicians creating momentum together. It is a track that moves as naturally on a festival stage as it does on the dance floor.

For the club, CLOSER founder Maxim Lany steps in with a remix that reshapes ‘Medea’ into a more direct dance floor cut while carefully preserving its emotional core. One of the leading figures on the Belgian electronic scene, the Ghent born artist and producer has spent well over a decade honing a sound of deep, emotional melodic techno, earning support from names like Solomun, Tale Of Us and Adriatique along the way. His version keeps the soul of the original intact and channels it straight to the floor.

Released on Maxim Lany’s own label CLOSER, ‘Medea’ is a proud spotlight on the creative energy flowing out of Ghent’s local scene, a shared vision of electronic music built to be felt, experienced live and kept in motion.

You can now listen to the full premiere of ‘Medea (Maxim Lany Remix)’ exclusively on When We Dip Radio. Enjoy!
