Uruguayan DJ and producer Federico Epis makes his debut on Last Night On Earth this August with the two track ‘Floyd’ EP, a release that quietly bridges the two halves of a long and unusual career.
Epis belongs to South America’s first generation of progressive house artists. Early tracks like ‘Brasilia’ were showcased on Sasha’s BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix and went on to become one of Audio Therapy’s biggest selling singles, earning support from Dave Seaman, Hernan Cattaneo and Pete Tong along the way. Releases on Global Underground followed, as did a residency on the Renaissance South American Tour, placing him among the leading names of that first wave. Then came a twelve year silence. His return has proven every bit as convincing, with music landing on Balance Music, The Soundgarden, Manual Music and Mango Alley, and a steady run of records charting in Beatport’s progressive section.
Our premiere is the EP’s title track. ‘Floyd’ takes its time, layering atmospheric melodies and textures with weightless vocals that drift in and out over electrifying guitar notes and pulsating percussion. Those guitars are what give the record its character, a warmth and a bite that progressive rarely reaches for, and they make the track just as rewarding on headphones as it is at four in the morning. Second track ‘Tribute’ heads somewhere dreamier still, pairing melodic keys and airy vocals with rolling drums for a deeply immersive close to the EP.

Last Night On Earth has been Sasha’s own outlet since 2011, a consistently forward thinking home for house and techno from the likes of La Fleur, Cristoph, Jeremy Olander and Max Cooper. A record built on melody, memory and ringing guitar strings suits the imprint perfectly.
