Through Gods Own Eyes has spent the last few years building a catalogue that refuses to sit still. Since 2019 the label has offered a home to tracks and EPs united not by a style or a sub-genre, but by sheer, unadulterated club potential, moving through floor-focused nu-disco, deep house and psychedelic chuggers along the way. That open-minded approach now carries the imprint somewhere new, into soaring, melody-rich progressive house, and it has recruited one of the style’s founding figures to make the trip.
Nick Warren needs little introduction. One half of the pioneering duo Way Out West, co-founder of Hope Recordings and a fixture on Bedrock, Global Underground and his own The Soundgarden stable, the Bristolian has been one of progressive house’s leading lights since the 1990s. ‘Waves’, his first outing for Through Gods Own Eyes, catches Ibiza at dusk: sparkling, sun-soaked melodic motifs, sustained chords, fluttering synth-flutes and dreamy pads wrapped around a shuffling, electro-influenced breakbeat and deep, smooth bass. It is a loved-up, emotion-rich affair powered forward by tuneful positivity and summer-warm atmospherics.
The EP comes backed by a strong remix package, and it is led by the version we are premiering today. Paul James Nolan is a producer, engineer and mentor whose credits include studio work alongside Sasha and Junkie XL, and whose MYT platform has quietly shaped a generation of new talent from his base in Buenos Aires. Here he trades the original’s breakbeat for driving 4/4 beats, throbbing bass and a constantly building arrangement, turning ‘Waves’ into a trance-inducing future progressive house anthem. It earned a rapturous response when Warren dropped it at the Balance Croatia festival in Tisno, and it is easy to hear why.
Elsewhere on the release, The Grid’s Richard Norris steps up with a deeper, more hypnotic flex that keeps the dancefloor focus and picturesque beauty of Warren’s original, all fluttering flutes, pulsing synths and rumbling bass. Belfast-based Scouser Simon Sheldon, one third of NuNorthern Soul-signed outfit Visions of Light, then closes the EP with a classic-sounding, late-90s-inspired rework built on subtle acid lines, sweeping chords and elastic bass.
