Some compilations feel like a label flex. Others feel like someone’s just opened the right crate at the right party. ‘Crate 001,’ the debut release from Jeddah-based Peachez in Crates, lands firmly in the latter camp.

Dropping September 16th, the 11-track VA brings together a seriously international cast of underground house heads, moving between dusty hip-hop flips, swinging jack, deep rollers, acid workouts and soulful, sample-heavy grooves. The common thread? It’s all about the groove.

Label founder Anmarz sets the tone with ‘Luv Junk,’ a head-nodding flip that wears its crate-digger credentials proudly, before South Africa’s BNinjas slips into the pocket with the low-slung shuffle of ‘Inverts.’ Chanson E then turns up the pressure on ‘Looo Academy,’ throwing jazzy loops and infectious jackin’ drums into the mix.

Things get sweatier with Hector Moralez’s ‘Back 2 The Acid,’ a proper heads-down workout where acid lines meet jazz-inflected touches, while Iceland’s Intr0beatz takes things deeper on the hypnotic ‘Distorted Reality.’ Jason Hodges’ ‘Stringin’ brings the swing back into focus, stacking vocal chops, jazz samples and snapping drums into a high-energy floor mover.

Joss Moog keeps the machines rolling on ‘Future,’ an analogue-heavy trip that gradually opens into moody Rhodes territory. Then comes Detroit’s Kyle Hall with ‘Nike,’ an MPC-driven cut that taps straight into the compilation’s hip-hop DNA without losing its house footing.

The final stretch doesn’t let up. Marlon George’s ‘Lonyo’ finds a sweet spot between lo-fi house and neo-soul, Some Too Suspect gets funky and jackin’ on ‘Peeps Peachez,’ and Suburb Beat brings the record home with the deep, melodic ‘Where The Music Comes From.’

For a label’s first statement, ‘Crate 001’ feels refreshingly unforced. No genre box, no unnecessary polish – just 11 cuts built around rhythm, samples and the kind of grooves that make sense at 3am.

And this is only the first crate. Each artist is set to return with individual releases over the next year, including a series of cross-remixes that should keep the Peachez sound evolving.
