Modd returns to his own imprint Bomond with ‘Essex’, a dark and restless cut that pushes the label’s organic roots into deeper, more experimental territory. Following the warm and melancholic ‘Halcyon’ earlier this year, the producer now turns the lights down and leans into broken rhythms, heavy low end and a groove that never quite settles where you expect it to.
‘Essex’ is built around intricate, off-kilter percussion and a punchy bassline that hits with real weight. Hypnotic textures drift through the mix while detailed drum programming keeps everything in constant motion, creating a tension that slowly tightens over almost seven minutes. Dark, energetic and slightly unpredictable, it never loses sight of the dancefloor, making it a perfect weapon for those late night moments when a set needs a twist.
Behind the project is a DJ and producer whose deep, organic soundscapes have taken him across the globe, from Ibiza and Tulum to Berlin, London, New York and Montreal. Over the years, Modd has released music on respected imprints such as Anjunadeep, All Day I Dream and Monstercat, building a reputation for emotional, carefully crafted productions that speak to both the mind and the body.
Bomond is the independent label he founded to give that vision a home. Dedicated to timeless sound and artistic freedom, the imprint blends organic house with electronic music, favouring melodic storytelling and cinematic atmospheres over passing trends. With ‘Essex’, a title that shares its name with the label’s UK home, Bomond proves it is just as comfortable exploring darker, more rhythmic sounds.
You can now listen to the full premiere of ‘Essex’ exclusively on When We Dip. Enjoy!
