Markakis to discuss all things ‘Little Prince/Starlight’ EP, early beginnings, inspiration, and more!
WWD: Welcome to WWD! Where are you and how are you spending the day?
Thanks for the interview. Right now, I’m in Santorini, Greece – one of the most beautiful and inspiring places to create & reflect. My day usually starts with coffee, family, and music!
WWD: Where were you born? Where are you based now?
I was born in Patra Achaias, Greece and grew up in Munich, Germany. Now I’m based in Santorini.
WWD: What do you love most about where you are living?
I love the energy of the island. It’s a perfect spot for peace, inspiration, connection with nature and creation. It gives me clarity & creativity. My family and the island’s rhythm keep me grounded.
WWD: How long have you been making music? What was your first step as a musician?
I’ve been making music for over 20 years. It all started behind the decks as a DJ before I got into production. I’ve always been fascinated by how sound can tell a story and travel your mind.
WWD: Are you a DJ too? What came first – DJing or production?
Yes, I’m a DJ first and then a music producer. DJing taught me how to read emotions through sound, and production allowed me to express those emotions in my own way.
WWD: What kind of artists, DJs, genres were you into growing up?
I grew up with hip hop, soul and rock music but I was deeply inspired when I heard for the first time the legends Marshall Jefferson and Kevin Yost. Their timeless grooves and soulful energy shaped my love for House & Deep House music.
WWD: Who are the artists that you follow right now?
I follow artists who stay true to their sound while always evolving. We have many great talents out there.
WWD: What is the most recent record you purchased or downloaded?
A few deep house gems I’ve been playing in my recent sets. I’m always digging for fresh yet timeless tracks.
WWD: If you could choose a few words to describe the vibe of T.Markakis, what would they be?
Dreamer and creative. Both as a person and as an artist.
WWD: Can you tell us about the new EP and the initial idea. When did you first approach this concept and what was your original intention?
The EP is called ‘Little Prince / Starlight’ and it’s released on Vibe Me To The Moon Records. It’s a Deep House and Lounge Chill out project created for my son. The whole concept came from a place of love.
WWD: What was most important for you to convey through these tracks?
Emotion, simplicity & soul. I wanted each sound to feel honest and personal – a message that love and light can live within music.
WWD: Do you feel that you were able to accomplish all of your intentions?
Yes, absolutely. The process felt natural & sincere. I think the EP truly reflects what I wanted to express.
WWD: What are you most proud of with this release?
That it came straight from my heart. It’s not just music. It’s a dedication to my child and a reflection of my journey so far.
WWD: What was the most challenging part of bringing the release together?
Balancing emotion with structure. When something is so personal, you want it to be perfect without losing its soul.
WWD: What drives you to create music, do you think?
The feeling of connection. It’s my way of sharing emotion, energy and positivity with people.
WWD: What has been one of your favourite moments from the past year?
My professional trip to Austria. It opened new perspectives and gave me a lot of inspiration for future projects.
WWD: Where do you find the most inspiration when it comes to discovering new music?
Family, travel, everyday life. Inspiration can come from anything and everything.
WWD: Is there anything that you would like to tell us about you?
I’m always learning and always exploring.
WWD: What can we hope to see next from T.Markakis?
Many new releases & upcoming events for sure. I’m really excited about what’s coming next. The journey continues!
WWD: Amazing! Thanks for the chat 🙂
