Sio stuns on Soul Quest Records debut with warm, introspective ‘Losing Sleep’ EP

Sio’s debut outing on Soul Quest Records feels like a meeting that was always destined to happen. The acclaimed South African singer-songwriter, poet and DJ continues to evolve her unmistakable blend of deeply personal storytelling and soul-stirring vocal delivery, and ‘Losing Sleep’ captures an exciting new chapter as she joins forces with the London-based imprint for the first time.

Across four beautifully crafted cuts, Sio finds an ideal home amongst the Soul Quest collective, whose warm palette of deep house, broken beat and jazz-infused grooves provides the perfect canvas for her poetic lyricism. Rather than competing for attention, the production gives her voice room to breathe, allowing every word, harmony and emotional nuance to land with purpose.

Opening track ‘Serious’, produced by Sean Green and From London, immediately sets the tone with its understated Afro-tinged house groove. Rich percussion, warm keys and a hypnotic rhythm create an effortless foundation for Sio’s reflective vocal, while the extended version that closes the EP allows the groove to stretch out into something even more immersive for late-night dancefloors.

‘Somewhere’, courtesy of Max Sinàl, KingCrowney and Sean Green, shifts towards broken beat territory with a beautifully restrained groove that feels equally suited to headphones as it does the club. It’s a standout example of Soul Quest’s signature sound – deep, musical and full of subtle detail – while Sio’s performance adds an intimate vulnerability that lingers long after the final note.

‘Hello’ continues that momentum with a shuffling broken house rhythm from Max Sinàl, Sean Green and Slxm Sol. Here, Sio once again demonstrates why she’s regarded as one of the most compelling vocalists in contemporary house music, effortlessly balancing fragility with quiet strength as her lyrics explore love, reflection and emotional growth.

Inspired by the sleepless nights that often accompany matters of the heart, ‘Losing Sleep’ never feels weighed down by melancholy. Instead, it transforms introspection into something warm, hopeful and deeply human. It’s a seamless fusion of London’s flourishing soulful underground and one of South Africa’s most distinctive creative voices.

For Soul Quest Records, this is another statement release that reinforces the label’s reputation for thoughtful, musically rich dance music. For Sio, it’s a collaboration that feels both natural and refreshingly new. The result is an EP that rewards repeat listens, revealing new emotional layers with every spin.
