Swiss techno heavyweight Deetron lends his touch to ‘Pelican’, the title track of Dimitri Andreas’ new EP on Move Recordings, and the result is a deep and sophisticated techno excursion built for the late hours.
‘Pelican’ is a five track EP that marks a new chapter for Dimitri Andreas, a respected figure of the underground who spent recent years immersed in theatre productions, immersive audio experiences and multidisciplinary art projects. That time away from the booth never dimmed his love for rhythm, space and tension, and on this release those worlds finally meet. The original title track glides on suspense and anticipation, ‘Omenica’ and ‘Mahu’ dive into the groove driven territory he is known for, ‘Cambolisa’ delivers a powerful melodic payoff and ‘Ember’ closes the journey with vintage synth warmth. The package is completed by three remixes from Deetron, Extrawelt and Petar Dundov.
On his version, Deetron strips ‘Pelican’ down to its hypnotic core before building it back up with rolling drums, organic percussion and a patient, spacious arrangement. Tension rises slowly, the atmospheres keep evolving and every element is placed with the precision you would expect from one of techno’s most respected craftsmen. It is a remix that works as well on a big room system as it does on a good pair of headphones.
Born Sam Geiser in Bern, Deetron has been a key name in electronic music for more than two decades. Rooted in a deep love for Detroit techno and house, he built his reputation through a long run of releases on Music Man Records, delivered a celebrated instalment of the !K7 DJ Kicks series and played the most important clubs and festivals around the world.
Move Recordings is the vinyl and digital label run by End-Jy, focused on groovy, hypnotic and forward thinking club music. Following a string of releases supported by DJs including Sven Väth, Timo Maas, Jamie Jones and Fedele, ‘Pelican’ is one of the imprint’s most ambitious projects to date.
