Sound of Fractures explores nostalgia & digital overwhelm on latest track, ‘I Wanna Get Back’

Rising UK-based electronic artist and producer Jamie Reddington (aka Sound of Fractures) announces ‘I Wanna Get Back,’ a fast-paced, energetic track that challenges our relationship with nostalgia and digital overwhelm in the streaming age. Rather than following traditional release strategies, Reddington has built an interactive retro game where players unlock a free download of the song before it’s available on streaming platforms, transforming a music release into a participatory world-building experiment and offering fans exclusive early access through gameplay.

“Everyone’s talking about wanting to escape the internet, rediscovering MP3 players, buying vinyl again. There’s this collective desire to get back to something real, something tangible,” shares Reddington. “So instead of just releasing a song about that feeling, I wanted to create an experience around it. I’ve been experimenting with AI coding tools like Cursor and building worlds around my music, this game felt like the perfect way to bring those ideas together. Play the game, and you get the song early, before Spotify, before Apple Music. It’s just wanted to do something fun and different from making normal social media content.”

The game operates as both a marketing activation and an artwork in itself, players run through levels collecting memories (MP3 players, vinyl records, photographs) while dodging threats (smartphones, digital slop). Every player who completes the game unlocks a free download of ‘I Wanna Get Back’ before its official streaming release. Each day, the top score on the leaderboard will win a limited edition sticker pack featuring the game’s custom pixel art characters. All players also receive streaming pre-save access for when the track officially drops.

‘I Wanna Get Back’ is Sound of Fractures’ most energetic and upbeat release to date, blending his signature emotional electronic sound with UK garage influences and urgent, kinetic production. The track explores the tension between digital life and tangible experience, between algorithmic feeds and authentic memory, themes that extend directly into the game experience surrounding its release.

The song features sound design elements pulled directly from the game itself, with stems and effects from the track’s breakdowns integrated as in-game sound effects. When players defeat bosses or transition between levels, they’re hearing pieces of ‘I Wanna Get Back’ woven into the experience, creating a feedback loop between music and interaction.

Reddington documented the entire game-building journey, experimenting with AI coding tools. The project reflects his ongoing exploration of how artists can use emerging technologies to create meaningful interactions rather than just chase algorithmic engagement.

“This wasn’t about becoming a game developer or a coder,” Reddington explains. “It was about continuing to experiment with how we connect with audiences. AI coding tools make it easier to prototype something like this quickly and without a budget, to take an idea and make it real. The game isn’t perfect, but it’s a fun way to connect with the song and in a more interesting way. I liek the idea that as musicians we can be more creative about the music and try some of the ideas that are usually only reserved for major label artists with marketing teams.”
