Blaufield Music has spent this year teasing one of its most intriguing signings in some time. Eddie Bizzarre turned up with no face, no backstory and very little explanation, and the mystery has only thickened since. What has been clear from the start is the music, and on August 28th the project returns to Booka Shade’s imprint with a second single.

‘A Love Bizarre’ takes on Sheila E.’s iconic 80s hit and reimagines it through the lens of uplifting, piano-led house. That unmistakable vocal is left exactly where it belongs, front and centre, while everything underneath it gets rebuilt with the kind of 90s inspired energy that is quickly becoming Eddie’s signature. Rolling chords, a bassline that refuses to sit still and a piano hook built for the moment the room lifts. It leans on nostalgia without ever feeling like a museum piece, which is a harder trick to pull off than it sounds.

Following debut single ‘Count On You’, this second outing offers another glimpse into a project rooted in familiar sounds but shaped by a voice that remains entirely new. Whoever Eddie Bizzarre turns out to be, the pieces are starting to add up.

Blaufield Music is the German imprint run by Booka Shade, the duo behind some of electronic music’s most enduring records, and it has long balanced their own albums with a carefully picked roster including Henri Bergmann, Julian Wassermann and LORRAÎNNE. Presenting an anonymous artist with a taste for great songs feels like a very Blaufield move.
