Sprout has spent the last few years quietly building one of the most dependable catalogues in melodic progressive house, and the label’s newest release brings two of its most respected figures into the same room. Label founder D-Nox joins forces with M.O.S. for the ‘Dream On’ EP, a two track outing that pairs D-Nox’s dancefloor instincts with the emotive, detail driven approach M.O.S. has become known for.

The title track is the perfect entry point. Built around a warm, rolling groove and a bassline that keeps everything moving without ever forcing the issue, ‘Dream On’ lets its synth work do the talking. Chords bloom and recede across the arrangement, the kind of understated melodic writing that reveals itself slowly rather than arriving all at once, and by the time the track fully opens up it feels less like a drop and more like a change in the weather. It is peak time music for rooms that prefer atmosphere over impact.

Its companion piece, ‘Follow the Stars’, pushes a little further into hypnotic territory, holding on to that same sense of restraint while layering brighter, more expansive textures over the top. Together the two tracks make a strong case for the pairing, with both artists clearly working from the same emotional palette.

D-Nox needs little introduction. The German DJ and producer has spent more than three decades in electronic music, picking up a DJ Awards win along the way and building a famously devoted following in Brazil, while releases on Sprout, Einmusika and Warung Recordings have kept him at the centre of the progressive conversation. His long running partnership with Beckers remains one of the genre’s most recognisable, and Sprout, the label he founded, has become a reliable home for the melodic, groove led sound he champions.

M.O.S. comes at it from a slightly different angle. Head of the Melody Of the Soul imprint, the producer has released through Anjunadeep, UV and Colorize, developing a style built on intricate melodic detail and organic warmth. That sensibility sits neatly alongside D-Nox’s more club focused instincts, and ‘Dream On’ is all the better for the contrast.

You can now listen to the full premiere of ‘Dream On’ exclusively on When We Dip. Enjoy!
