Some tracks feel like they were made for the hours when the rest of the world has gone quiet. ‘The Night’ is one of them. Marking the debut collaboration between Paris based Zimmer and Berlin duo Local Suicide, it is a dark wave meets indie dance cut written in Berlin and paired with a visualizer filmed across the grey city.
It opens with a glossy synth line that loops like racing thoughts, then patiently layers itself into something heavier. The tension keeps building until the track tips fully onto the dancefloor, driven by EBM influences with a hint of acid bubbling underneath. It is an insomniac anthem, the kind of record you sink into as dawn starts to creep through the blinds.
‘The Night’ is the first taste of Zimmer’s upcoming EP, due June 26 on his own label Es Mi Momento. Zimmer has long been one of the most reliable names in melodic, leftfield dance music, and his Paris based imprint has quickly become a home for everything from slow, shadowy indie dance to bright, euphoric trance. Local Suicide, the Berlin based DJ and production couple behind Iptamenos Discos, bring their signature blend of new wave, EBM, acid and post disco to the pairing. Together they have made a track that sounds exactly like the city that gave birth to it: nocturnal, restless and quietly euphoric.
