Some tracks are built for the charts, and some are built to sit in a DJ’s vault until the moment is right. Frankfurt’s Gorgin has a few of the latter, and on October 16th he finally opens the vault with the ‘No Destino’ EP, his return to Dubfire’s SCI+TEC. Classically trained on piano from a young age, Gorgin moved from composing and performing classical pieces to the endless possibilities of electronic production, and that background shows in everything he makes: futuristic and vintage elements woven into touching, memorable melodies. His music has passed a million streams on Spotify and SoundCloud, found its way into the Emmy-winning Apple TV series Ted Lasso, and taken him to the top of Beatport’s Indie Dance chart with his releases on Solomun’s Diynamic, where his debut earned support from Solomun, &ME, Adam Port and Rampa and his ‘Heartbeater’ EP went straight to number one. Since then he has added Nervous Records, Global Underground, ICONYC and Madorasindahouse to his discography, along with ‘Ex Machina’, his first outing on SCI+TEC in 2024.
The ‘No Destino’ EP is a two-track journey born from intuition and studio flow. Gorgin finished the title track in a single productive session and sent it to only two people he deeply admires, Dubfire and Solomun. Both immediately embraced it as a secret weapon and have been spinning it on dancefloors around the world ever since. It arrives alongside ‘Get Back’, another long-standing vault staple that Dubfire has championed globally, making this the first time either track is available to everyone else.
Our premiere is ‘Get Back’, and it is easy to hear why it has been getting such a workout. Running at 123 BPM over five and a half minutes, it pairs a rolling indie dance groove with the kind of warm, vintage-tinged synth melody that has become Gorgin’s signature, building patiently before opening up into a hook that lodges itself firmly in the memory. It is emotive without ever losing its drive, a track that works just as well at peak time as it does on a late-night terrace.
SCI+TEC is the natural home for it. Founded in 2007 by Ali Shirazinia, better known as Dubfire and formerly one half of the Grammy-winning duo Deep Dish, the label started life as an outlet for his own productions before growing into one of the most respected imprints in techno and house. Nearly two decades in, SCI+TEC still refuses to be pinned to a single genre, favouring character and soul over trends and quality over quantity, which is exactly why a melodic indie dance record like this one sits so comfortably in its catalogue.
You can now listen to the full premiere of ‘Get Back’ exclusively on When We Dip Radio. Enjoy!
